New Videos and Tutorials: World Building, Gameplay, and Entity/Avatar Creation

We have just published the first revision of the new Hooking Up Gameplay in Scenes tutorial, which is part of the sequence of tutorials we are writing to show how to create - from start to finish - a game like the new, open-source Isles of War demo game included in the most recent release of the Visual3D Game Engine.

This first tutorial focuses on hooking up Scenarios to scenes, and creating and editing entity and component classes for use in the toolset. Additionally, we just published the first cuts of the series of video tutorials we are working on, with the 6 videos we had just published into the  World Building and Terrain Editor manual focusing on Scene and Terrain Creation, as well as Sculpting, Painting, Generating, Importing and Optimizing Terrains using the Visual3D All-in-One Toolset's built-in terrain editor.
We released these videos while we are still updating the written and screenshot parts of the World Building user manual/tutorial, and also prior to adding voice over narration to the videos, so that we could get them out to you sooner, and we are still making updates to the written and screenshot portion of the World Building manual, as well as working on more tutorials and new documentation pages for world building.

We have also been making other updates to the user manuals and tutorials on our wiki, and have begun publishing a few more screenshots and videos.   We started by adding some previously unreleased screenshots for Visual3D-powered projects and a few screenshots for new scripting tools, as well as the Serious Games Showcase Banner (for Visual3D-powered Military, Training Simulation, and Geovisualization applications). Next, we are producing videos and screenshots showcasing our new demo games and simulations, such as Isles of War and Training Simulation, as well as overviewing the wide range of tools and new streamlined user interface for Visual3D's All-in-One Toolset.

Some of the many new features and major toolset enhancements released with Visual3D Game Engine v.9 which we are focusing on in our documentation updates include:

  • Entity Hookup (wiring up animations, sound, movement, and other actions to entity states and key mapping)
  • Mission/Gameplay/Simulation Hookup (via modular Scenario component, entity ability extensions, events, and triggered states)
  • Smart Copies for Entity Prefab Instancing
  • Creating Custom Components (with assets automatically added to toolset for your classes written in C#, IronPython, Visual Basic (VB), C++/CLI, JScript and other .NET language)
  • Decal Editor (for painting additional detail onto terrain)
  • Land Cover/Vegetation Brushes and Generation
  • Object Brush (mode in Scene Editor)
  • Importing DAZ/Poser Characters (with Lip Syncing and Morph Animations)
  • Live Importing (with Autoreimporting/Merging for Side-by-Side use with modeling tools)
  • New Animated Collada and FBX Importers (with Collada .dae now the suggested format for most models) (as well as FBX Exporting for Enterprise Edition)
  • Voice Acting and Conversation Scripting
  • Terrain Editor's New Tools and UI (for sculpting, painting, generation, importing, exporting, and optimization).
