Default Beta 2.4 Issues

Nice job guys! I especially like the 'WoodTown' physics demo.

The GIS2 demo is much improved over v2.3, but there are still a few cracks showing up. See screenshots below.

Also, I noticed that there are some issues with the ragdoll in the physics demo. It has a tendency to penetrate the ground to varying amounts depending on the speed and orientation with which it hits. If I pick it up and drop it from about 4 times it's height then it can penetrate the ground up to its hips in the worst case. I also found that if you drag things below ground and bring them back they seem to have some residual energy stored in them. One of the blocks kept trying to stand on end and then spun on the y-axis for about 30 seconds afterward. Granted, this is an unlikely scenario to happen in-game (except with the ragdoll) but I thought I'd bring it up as it may be a symptom of a larger problem.

Those are the only to problems I've found so far, but I'd like to request a demo in the next version in which the deciduous trees are animated similarly to the palms. I get why you guys might be more interested in the palm trees but a lot of us will be using the deciduous trees more I think. I'd be happy to look into it myself if it's something Users have access to at this point and you can point me in the right direction.

Default Texture Browser Crash

Congrats on this release...it's looking good!

I'm still having the same problem with the Texture Browser Selection...it freezes then V3D (eventually) crashes.

Attached is my error log.

I'm Running

8GB of DDR2 1066mhz
Nvidia 8800GTX (with latest official Forceware Drivers 175.19)

I had the same problem with the model browser until it (the model) was saved in "My World" ...when I restarted V3D it didn't have that problem anymore, whether I have another model saved in it or not it now works. It' seems that only one is needed for it to continually work from now on.

On that premise, I decided to copy the texture folder to "My World" ...didn't work

Another weird thing is the texture path with this particular example

I can't find it anywhere in all the folder directories ....#Media/Models/F38Prototype/ yet the texture shows up in the preview.

Anyone new here wanting to become a Beta Tester? For Beta Testers, we can provide you early releases.

Regarding the Texture/Model Selector:
Wow, sorry that this defect has persisted. Our internal tests had shown that our changes resolved the issue, but apparently it still didn't work. We're going to try and address this issue with 24 hrs, and provide you with a single DLL file that can be copied into your binaries folder, and should fix this problem. That's the tenative plan.

Regarding the Terrain Cracks
Thanks for showing this. The cracks are a known defect which we didn't have time to debug before this release. I believe they are more prevalent on the ATI HD. These are a known issue and should be fully resolved before our next release. GIS2 is still not ready for prime time yet.

I'm more than willing to help work out bugs but at this point I'm not very involved in the code, only the Asset Pipeline and Architect, so I don't know how helpful I'd be as a Beta Tester.

Nah, but it's certainly getting there.

I'd definitely want to be a beta tester please...in fact I got a few team members who would also be interested, as we are now moving forward with testing and asset creation with V3D.

Default BSOD with 3DSMAX running

I just got another BSOD, basically on opening V3D my Nvidia drivers crashed . This has happened a few times with Beta 2.3. During the 3 occasions of the Beta 2.3 crashes I had 3DSMAX 2008 (64bit) running. I decided to never have the 2 programs open simultaneously...and never had the problem occur again.

Today I opened beta 2.4 and forgot I had 3DSMax open (32bit Max this time) and my Nvidia drivers crashed.

3DSMax always turns off Vista Aero when you start it up. It's a bit funny with other programs to.

Pucker, thanks for the report about 3dsMax -- this is good to know. This might be a hard one to resolve, but it's great to now have it on our radar. BSOD == BAD!

For those interested, Here is the Posting that describes our process/application for becoming a Beta Tester. Currently we have about a half-dozen who are now receiving early releases, and helping us with pre-validations of quality before release.

BUG FIX! PATCH IS AVAILABLE!

As promised, we think we have fixed the "Asset Selection" dialog "hang/crash" that has been reported again by PuckerFactor and Marnoch above.

You can download this patch here. This is a zip file with a README.TXT inside to tell you where to copy the files.

For your convenience, I have pasted the README.txt contents here as well, so you can preview what is involved for applying this patch:
-----------------------------
To apply this patch, just copy the two accompanying files:

Visual3D.Architect.dll
Visual3D.Architect.pdb

into the following path,

{InstallPath}/Projects/Visual3D

over the top of the existing files that should already be there (with the same filenames).

Note:
{InstallPath} defaults to: "C:\Realmware\Visual3D.NET Beta 2.4"
