FOR WINDOWS 7 SUPPORT   (and possibly other cases):

Please be sure to change the installation path when installing to not be under "Program Files" (for example, to "C://Visual3D Game Engine" instead).  This is required, for the this release, if you are running Windows 7, and might be needed in a few other cases as well.  Doing this will avoid file permission issues which may prevent Visual3D from starting up correctly. Like with the Terrain Editor patch, this step won't be required once v0.9.7 is released.

Installation

Installation

  1. Uninstall previous version of Visual3D Game Engine (or Visual3D.NET) if installed.
  2. Then download the web installer, from the above link, and run it, to install Visual3D Game Engine (including All-in-One Development Toolset, Demo Games, and Starter Kit).

  • Intel Pentium® 4 1.6 GHz / AMD Athlon™ XP 1500+
  • 3 GB System Memory (RAM) or more
    • Use of integrated graphics chips (for those which se shared / system video memory) may result in additional System Memory requirements beyond those stated, depending on toolset features and content used.
    • See Memory Requirement Notes below for more details

Memory Requirement Notes

  • If using less than 3 GB (especially if 2 GB or under), or if have integrated graphics processor which users shared / system video memory, or if you otherwise encounter memory-related issues, then
    • We suggest testing Build Terrain first, to ensure this works for you, before purchasing
    • If not, you can try it again with the further memory optimizations in our v0.9.7 release.
    • Or, you can select Editable, Instant Build terrain type when creating a terrain for a new scene, to avoid need to build terrains (an optional optimizations for very large terains/worlds)
      • Alternatively, in v0.9.6 +, you can use Object Editor to change the Terrain (or Environment)'s Preferred (or Game) Terrain Module from the default, to change to type of terrain which doesn't require waiting for it to "build" LODs for optimization. Terrain Changes, as this isn't required for terrain editor use.

  • Shader Model 3.0 (DirectX 9.0c) capable graphics card, or higher
    • NVIDIA 9600GT,  ATI HD 4670 or higher
    • Greater than 512 MB dedicated graphics memory (may be lower depending on game/simulation content)
    • NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards are suggested (over Intel or alternatives)
    • Dedicated video memory is suggested  instead of integrated graphics processors (IGPs) which use shared memory for video memory
  • 2 GHz Dual Core Processor or better
  • 3 GB System Memory (RAM) or more
    • See Memory Requirement Notes below for more details

Dependencies Installed by Web Installer

Note: This are automatically installed when you download and run the web installer, however, they are are listed here for reference and for admin deployment.

Installation Troubleshooting for Web Installer

Note, if the web installer runs, but Visual3D fails to run, there is a good chance that the dependencies were not auto-installed as they should have been.  You can install these manually by clicking the links shown above under "Dependencies", starting with DirectX, which is the most common dependency to be missing (since Visual3D uses a very recent release of DirectX from August 2009).
